The Embassy

Sri Lanka established its diplomatic Mission in Cairo, Egypt in 1957, following the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in the same year. The Mission represents Sri Lanka’s first diplomatic presence on the African Continent. The Embassy of Sri Lanka is located at No. 8, Sri Lanka Street, Zamalek, Cairo, Egypt, with the street being officially named “Sri Lanka Street” in 1983.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Cairo is concurrently accredited to the State of Eritrea, the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Republic of the Sudan, the Republic of Tunisia, the Kingdom of Morocco, and the State of Libya. In addition, Sri Lanka maintains an Honorary Consulate in Tunis, Tunisia.
